Talking Tip
New words can be learnt anywhere, not only at home or in school so help your child learn new words when you are out and about this summer. Have fun talking about what you can see and what you do.This will actively ensure your child gets more ‘word power’ . If you think your child doesn’t know a new word, remember to explain it to them.
You can find more information on the five key ingredients for speech, langauge and communication, as well as some games for you and your child to play at -

Bikes
July 9, 2010Thank you to Mr Purnell and his Bike it team for our new bikes. The bikes have been refurbished and repaired at school by Mr Purnell and his team.We really enjoy using them.
It has been hot and sunny so our plants have needed plenty of water.
Reading books in the sunshine.
Time for a picnic.
For children to be good communicators and successful learners, a well developed and varied vocabulary is extremely important.
You can introduce children to new words and develop their creativity by joining in with their pretend play.Comment on what they are saying and doing rather than asking lots of questions. For example-
“You’ve given us one plate each .” “These cakes are so delicious .”
Remember to come and see our Secret Garden on Thursday and Sport’s day on Friday.
Road Safety
July 2, 2010As part of our transport theme we have been learning about road safety. We watched a video about crossing the road safely .Here we are practising crossing the road on our zebra crossing.
We read the story “Teddy Takes a Tumble” and talked about the importance of wearing a seat belt in the car.
Here we are drawing around transport templates and making models of rockets.
A big red fire engine with ladders on the top parked outside our nursery so we went to have a look.
It was sports week this week and we practised our races for nursery sports day .Nursery sports will be held on the morning and afternoon of Friday 16th July.We also did a special exercise routine based on the different olympic sports.
Happy Birthday
Talking Tip
When you are out walking with your child talk to them about road safety and introduce new words to their vocabulary such as traffic, pavement, kerb, speed.Talk about what you are doing …
Hold a grown-up’s hand, then you will be safe.
Always be careful when you are near a road.
Pavements are for people to walk on.Roads are where the traffic goes.
The edge of the pavement is called the kerb.Never stand too close to the kerb.
Look for a safe place to cross.Keep LOOKING and LISTENING.
Read the road signs .
Next Week
Reading a story called “The Train Ride”.Drawing a picture about the story and “writing” about our picture.Writing our name on the picture.
Naming different types of transport and vechicles eg bus, car, lorry, train, ship, plane, helicopter.Making models of these using construction toys and talking about our models.
Fun in the Sunshine
June 26, 2010We have been playing outside in the sunshine. Playing with cars and trucks.Making dens.Climbing and swinging.Going on a train ride. “Tickets please!”Digging and collage.
Water play
Talking Tip
Develop your child’s language through water play. Help them to understand mathematical language by using words such as full, empty, half full, holds more than, holds less than.
Introduce new words to their vocabulary such as splash, drip, trickle, gush etc
Happy Birthday
Book Day
June 18, 2010We dressed up as characters from different stories.
Peter Pan ,Jungle Book and Little Red Riding Hood.
Princess and Fairy stories.
Stories on cebeebies and super hero stories.
Magical stories .Harry Potter and Winnie the Witch
Woody gets some extra help from the Toy Town police.
Doctor Foster and one of the 3 little pigs.
Reading Tip
Share books about things that excite and interest your child .
Read children’s favourite books over and over again.Try to use different voices and make silly noises.
It is a good thing if your child keeps asking you for the same book. This shows that your child loves books and is well on the way to becoming an enthusiastic reader.
Try to relate the story to your child’s own experiences ,eg “That dog looks like the one next door.”
Happy Father’s Day
Remember reception induction meeting on Monday 21st 2pm so no afternoon nursery.
